Working on the Scars

Oct 28, 2021

Surgery, fractures, sprains and even cuts can all injure body tissue and cause scars. While this is part of the normal healing process, it can become an issue if a scar that hasn’t properly developed is left untreated.

It’s essential to work on promoting healthy tissue as soon as possible after scarring develops and few people are aware of the potential problems that can arise with untreated scars. Sadly, many fear that they will have to live with unattractive scarring and restricted movement for the rest of their lives. But massage therapy can help you heal and overcome any challenges you’re facing with scar tissue.

Specific scar tissue work is called ‘remodelling’ and can help:

  • reduce pain
  • improve your skin’s condition and appearance
  • increase the range of motion in the joints and muscles that surround any scars
  • restore normal mobility and function
  • free trapped nerves.

The most common things I treat with remodelling include:

  • post-surgery scars
  • fractures
  •  joints replacements
  • caesarean section cuts
  • breast cancer surgery
  • burns.

Along with massage therapy, using stretching exercises will help you with your flexibility – elongating muscles and helping any injured areas to function more effectively.
